Embedded Linux on RISC-V with BeagleV, Yocto and OpenEmbedded

BeagleV is the first affordable RISC-V development board capable of running Linux distributions. RISC-V is a new computer architecture with an open instruction set which creates multiple new opportunities.

In this talk we will explore a beta version of BeagleV and learn how to get started with it. Using the Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded and appropriate board support package (BSP) we will build a simple Linux distribution from scratch and boot it on the device. The presentation will provide exact steps and quick introduction to Yocto and OpenEmbedded.

The talk is appropriate for anyone, including beginners. No previous experience is required. Hopefully, it will encourage more developers and engineers to support and build open source hardware devices and CPU based on an open instruction.

Leon Anavi is an open source enthusiast and a senior software engineer at Konsulko Group. He is an active contributor to various Yocto/OpenEmbedded meta layers, Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), Tizen any many other open source projects. His professional experience includes web and mobile application development for various platforms as well as porting and maintaining embedded Linux distributions to Raspberry Pi and devices with i.MX6, NVIDIA Tegra, Rockchip and Allwinner (aka sunxi) SoC. Leon holds a masters in Information Technology from the Technical University Sofia. His previous speaking experience includes talks about open source software and hardware during virtual and physical events in San Francisco, San Diego, Portland (OR), Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Brussels, Berlin, Edinburgh, London, Cambridge, Bratislava, Prague, Sofia and his hometown Plovdiv.
